Santa Fe Increases Minimum Wage Effective March 1, 2017

All businesses within Santa Fe, New Mexico, will be subject to implementing the new Living Wage (also referred to as minimum wage) beginning March 1, 2017.  The new minimum wage of $11.09 is an 18 cent increase over the city’s current Living Wage, but it is $3.76 higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 and $3.59 higher than the New Mexico state minimum wage of $7.50.  The minimum wage in Santa Fe increases annual based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

What Employers Should Know

  • All part- and full-time employees are eligible to be paid the Living Wage
  • Applies to all employees employed within Santa Fe
  • Includes contractors for the city of Santa Fe
  • Applies to businesses receiving assistance from the city
  • Applies to all businesses that are required to have a business license or registration from the city
  • Applies to all non-profit organizations except those whose primary source of funds are Medicaid waivers
  • Applies to workers who customarily receive more than $100 in commissions and tips

All businesses within Santa Fe must display the new Living Wage notice in addition to the state and federal posting requirements.  The New Mexico All-in-One-Poster, including all state and federal updates, is available in addition to the new Santa Fe Living Wage Notice.
