In August 2022, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights published revised notices for the New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA) and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) for places of public accommodation and employment. The new notices clarify existing regulations and provide updated contact information.
New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA) Update
- Remedies for violations may include money damages, an order to stop violating the Act, adoption of new policies and procedures, attorney’s fees, and more.
- Statement of prohibition of retaliation against an individual attempting to take or taking NJFL leave, reporting NJFL violations, or exercising other rights under the NJFLA.
- All employers subject to the NJFL must display the notice in places easily visible to all employees and applicants for employment.
New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) in Places of Public Accommodation Update
- Religion added as protected characteristic
- Statement expressing the law means people cannot be treated differently, harassed, or otherwise discriminated against in a place of public accommodation based on their membership in a protected class.

New Jersey Labor Law Poster Update
All businesses within the State of New Jersey must post the New Jersey Family Leave Act, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination in Places of Public Accommodation, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination in Employment notices along with other state-mandated posting requirements where it is sufficiently accessible and viewable to all employees. This change has been reflected in our New Jersey & Federal Labor Law Poster and does require an immediate mandatory update. Failure to meet compliance requirements and display the updated poster could result in fines.
