New York City Labor Law Poster Update

Two new mandatory updates were announced by the City of New York concerning labor law posters. The “Right To Temporary Changes to Your Work Schedule Notice” has been updated and “Stop Sexual Harassment Notice (NOW New York City Labor Law Poster)” has been released and all businesses in New York City are required to post these notices by law.

Right To Temporary Changes to Your Work Schedule Notice Poster

As of July 18, 2018, New York City law requires employers to grant employees up to two temporary schedule changes per calendar year for qualifying “personal events.” Personal events can include providing care to a child or other care recipient, needing to attend a legal proceeding or hearing, or anything that would qualify as safe time or sick time.

All businesses are required this updated poster to stay compliant.

Stop Sexual Harassment Act Notice

On May 9, 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the “Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act” in an effort to combat and prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. As part of the new act, all businesses in New York City are required to post the “Stop Sexual Harassment Act Notice.”
The poster explains to employees that sexual harassment and retaliation are prohibited under the NYC Human Rights Law, gives examples of harassment, and states the contact information for reporting sexual harassment to the NYC Commission on Human Rights, the New York State Division of Human Rights, and the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission.

All employers are required to provide this notice to employees by law and failure to do so could result in fines.

Notice Date: July 23rd

Suggested Post Date: ASAP (September 6th)
