Michigan Mandatory Updates: Minimum Wage & Paid Medical Leave Act

Last December, former Michigan governor Rick Snyder signed into law the Paid Medical Leave Act and the Michigan Senate made changes to the “Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act,” increasing Michigan’s minimum wage. Two mandatory poster updates follow this new legislation.

Minimum Wage Poster
The Michigan Minimum Wage poster has been updated with the new minimum wage requirements.
The minimum wage will increase from $9.25 an hour to $9.45 an hour effective March 29, 2019 and
in following years the minimum wage increase as follows:

  • $9.65 in 2020
  • $9.87 in 2021
  • $10.10 in 2022
  • $10.33 in 2023
  • $10.56 in 2024
  • $10.80 in 2025
  • $11.04 in 2026
  • $11.29 in 2027
  • $11.54 in 2028
  • $11.79 in 2029
  • $12.05 in 2030

These increases will be effective effective on January 1st of that year. The new poster also reflects the names of the new governor (Gretchen Whitmer) and director. All businesses are required by law to post this updated poster to stay compliant.

Paid Medical Leave Act Poster
A new Paid Medical Leave Act Post details all changes to the Paid Medical Leave Act. The Paid Medical Leave Act (PMLA), formerly known as the “Earned Sick Time Act,” requires employers to pay eligible employees for earned medical leave time, which can be used for personal or family health needs. This new poster has added information about eligible employees, accrual time, mandatory paid time, sick leave coverage, carryover hours, and requesting leave.

All employers are required to provide this notice to employees by law and failure to do so could result in fines.
