Each year, the State of Montana adjusts its minimum wage based on the Consumer Price Index by September 30th. This has resulted in a new increased minimum wage of $8.65 per hour, effective January 1, 2020. Compared to other states, Montana does not have separate wage rates for tipped credit, training wage or meal credits. The notice also states that employees who work more than 40 hours in a workweek are eligible for overtime pay and must be compensated at least 1.5 times their pay rate.

All businesses within the State of Montana must display the Minimum Wage Notice along with other state-mandated posting requirements where it is sufficiently accessible and viewable to all employees. This newly required change has been reflected in our Montana & Federal Labor Law Poster and does need an immediate update. Failure to meet compliance and display the updated poster could result in fines.
