Though the start of the new year is a busy time for wage and labor law updates, it’s critical for employers to stay informed of ever-changing employment laws throughout the year. Oftentimes even minor changes to workplace posters prompt the need for replacement posters to remain in compliance with posting requirements.
The District of Columbia has updated five workplace posters required to be displayed in the workplace by July 1, 2024. The revised posters include new logos, new contact information, and the revision date as well as important information about District of Columbia labor laws.

- New category protected from discrimination includes sealed eviction records
- Added an employee’s right to file a complaint within one year of an incident of an employer wrongfully denying family or medical leave, or retaliating against an employee for exercising his/her rights under the D.C. Human Rights Act.

Parental Leave Poster Update

Protecting Pregnant Workers Fairness Act Poster Update

Minimum Wage Poster Update

- Increased minimum wage to $10.00 per hour for employees who receive tips
- New minimum wage effective July 1, 2024
- Overtime exceptions removed for private household work living on employer’s premises, and parking lot and parking garage attendants
- New section added to define on-call time
It’s worth noting that several of the new posters include text that is out of place or incomplete sentences, assuming errors were made by the publishers. These errors are expected to be corrected in the near future.
All businesses within the District of Columbia must display the new posters along with other mandated posting requirements where they are sufficiently accessible and viewable to all employees. These changes have been reflected in our District of Columbia Labor Law Poster and require an immediate mandatory update. Failure to meet compliance requirements and display the updated posters could result in fines.
