In October 2019, the Maryland Department of Labor issued new civil penalties in the state’s Equal Pay and Equal Work Act. The new update further outlines acts prohibited by an employer and its penalties should the employer be found in violation. This may include fines up to $300. Employers with multiple violations within a 3 year period could be penalized with an additional 10% of the amount of damages owed.

All businesses within the State of Maryland must display the Equal Pay for Equal Work Notice along with other state-mandated posting requirements where it is sufficiently accessible and viewable to all employees. This change has been reflected in our Maryland & Federal Labor Law Poster and does require an immediate update. Failure to meet compliance and display the updated poster could result in fines.
