Florida Minimum Wage 2015 is $8.05

Effective January 1, 2015 the Florida minimum wage increases from $7.93 to $8.05 per hour, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The 1.5% increase is based on the Consumer Price Index or CPI. The FL Minimum Wage Act requires the state to adjust the minimum wage based on the cost of living each year since 2005.This year’s increase of 12 cents is slightly below the average increase of 15 cents.

The Florida minimum wage for tipped employees is $5.03 beginning January 1, 2015. However, if the employee does not average $8.05 per hour over the payroll period, the employer must pay the difference in wages.

Employers throughout Florida are required to display a current minimum wage poster, beginning January 1, 2015. An excellent way to do so is to enroll in the compliance plan at www.laborlawcenter.com.

According to a study from Pew Research, 6.3% of hourly works throughout the southern U.S. earn the minimum wage or less. Workers earning the minimum wage are more likely to live in the South than in any other region.
