District of Columbia Paid Family Leave Act

The District of Columbia Office of Human Rights has issued a new, mandatory Parental Leave Act poster. All businesses in Washington D.C.. must display this new poster or face fines. It’s an entirely new poster regarding the Paid Family Leave Law that explains who is covered by the law and how the program works.

The District of Columbia Parental Leave Act allows employees who are parents or guardians to take 24 hours of leave (paid or unpaid) during a 12 month period to attend school-related activities. Employees must notify the employer 10 days before the requested leave unless the school-related activity was not reasonably foreseeable. The poster defines who is considered to be a parent or guardian and goes into detail on what qualifies as a school-related activity.

All employers are required to provide this notice to employees by law and failure to do so could result in fines.
