On Friday, May 5, St. Louis implemented the first of a two-part minimum wage increase.  On May 5 the city’s minimum wage increased to $10.00 per hour and will increase to $11.00 per hour on January 1, 2018.  The minimum wage will impact all businesses within the city limits.

Who is Included and Excluded?

Businesses and workers who are included are:

  • Businesses within the city limits (a map on the city’s website can offer assistance if an employer is in doubt).
  • Employees who work 20 or more hours per calendar year within the city.

The minimum wage applies to businesses with the following exceptions:

  • Businesses with annual gross revenues of less than $500,000 and new businesses that have been in operations for less than one year and whose annual revenue is projected to be less than $500,000.

  • Tipped employees who receive more than $30 per month in tips is subject to a minimum wage of at least 50% of the designated rate.

All businesses within St. Louis have two posting requirements associated with this law.  One is a standard employee notice and the other is a payroll notice which must be included with the first paycheck after the law goes into effect.  Employers must display these notices  in addition to the standard state and federal posting requirements.  The Missouri All-in-One-Poster, including all state and federal updates, is available in addition to the new St. Louis Minimum Wage Notice.

The Labor Law Center offers a worry-free service to our customers through our Poster Service Plan with automatic replacements.  What this means is that we monitor the state and federal postings and automatically send you updates when they are released.  It is that simple!
