Pennsylvania W-2 Form

Did you receive your Pennsylvania W-2 Form? It is the federal law for employers in the U.S. to send an accurate W-2 forms to all employees by January 31.

While many employers mail these forms, there are still some who give W-2s directly to employees with the last check in January. However the method, it must be done by the deadline, or you have something to complain about.

It is more important than ever to have that form in your hands when you file your taxes. In the past, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was lenient about taxpayers using this form, and a pay stub was sufficient evidence. Well, not any more!

The IRS is coming down hard on employers who fail to provide these forms. It will be a hassle for you to do you taxes without it, as more forms need to be completed to explain the lack of a W-2. Your tax return will probably take much longer to process without your W-2, so if you haven’t received it, make sure you find out why and get a copy ASAP.

If you don’t have your form, make sure your paycheck includes the proper address. Whether it is the correct address or not, you need to let your employer know that you didn’t get it. If you work for a smaller company, it is possible that they mailed it after the deadline. Majority of companies, however, make sure that these forms are out on time. If it got lost in the mail and you inform them you don’t have it, they should send you a replacement.

Larger companies typically don’t have issues with getting this payroll responsibility taken care of. The fact of the matter is, with a larger budget, they can afford professional payroll services that take care of that obligation for them.

Often times small or even medium-sized companies don’t have that luxury. Knowing the law should nonetheless motivate them to get started as early as possible with meeting the deadline.
