History of Discrimination Within the Workplace

Since the turn of the century, the history of discrimination within the workplace has been developing by adding new clauses and understandings. Many businesses have been accused of workplace discrimination over the past century or so. As such, government has tried to regulate discrimination in order to protect employees’ rights. State and federal agencies are in charge of overseeing that workplace discrimination and of ensuring that it does not occur ot the best of their abilities.
One of the most public developments in the history of discrimination within the workplace was the civil rights legislation in the U.S. That legislation required that the workplace was to be open to all employees, regardless of race.
Each form of discrimination has been regulated using different methods at different times in the history of discrimination within the workplace. Racial discrimination may be the most well-known legislation. But other forms of discrimination regulation of note have been discrimination based on the grounds of religion and sex.
Religious discrimination has received much attention in recent years since the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S. Since those attacks, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for the federal government has received nearly 1000 charges against employers who are said to have been discriminating based on the grounds of religion. Interestingly enough, President George H. W. Bush stated in 1988 that those individuals without religion (atheists) should not be considered to be patriots or citizens. This group of individuals has been subjected to the most widespread discrimination when it comes to religion.
Each workplace is required to have a labor law poster that clearly outlines employees’ rights. Those labor law posters not only provide information about discrimination in the workplace, but they also provide contact information for the state and federal agencies that regulate discrimination. As such, employees can quickly and easily find the information they need about workplace discrimination in order to file a claim.
