Like other forms of harassment, sexual harassment is not only illegal, but it can cause severe morale problems in the workplace. And victims are not the only ones affected – employers themselves suffer negative consequences as victims are more frequently absent &/or resign from their jobs. Even while on the job, victims may begin to have performance problems, thereby directly affecting the company’s bottom line.

Federal law prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace and several states now require periodic mandatory training for employees and supervisors. A key part of this training is ensuring that all employees know who to contact should they feel they are being harassed. Even in states that do not specifically require training, an employer may be able to reduce their liability or limit damages by proving that they have taken reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment and to promptly address it when it does arise.

The poster provides harassment victims with an avenue to seek help while also helping protect the company from liability in the event of a lawsuit.
