Since October 1, 2007, most workplaces in Tennessee have been smoke free, thanks to the Tennessee Smokefree Air Act. This Act helps to ensure that the air within the workplace is free from secondhand smoke, with can be equally as damaging to one's health as first-hand smoke, according to federal studies.
According to the Tennessee Smokefree Air Act, employees are prohibited from smoking within the workplace itself and from areas need doors and windows of the workplace. Instead, smokers should smoke outside of the workplace in designated smoking areas.
