Governor Cuomo signed legislation enacting a statewide $15 minimum wage increase as part of the 2016-2017 state budget. The Minimum Wage rates are scheduled to increase each year on December 31st until they reach $15.00 per hour.
The first series of wage increases went into effect on December 31, 2016, and rates will differ based on region and industry. Here’s a general breakdown:

- $13.00 per hour – Overtime of $19.50 per hour after 40 hours of work
New York City (small employers with 10 or less employees)
- $12.00 per hour – Overtime of $18.00 per hour after 40 hours of work
Long Island
- $11.00 per hour – Overtime of $16.50 per hour after 40 hours of work
Remaining NY Cities
- $10.40 per hour – Overtime of $15.60 per hour after 40 hours of work
Hospitality Industry
New York City (large employers with 11 or more employees)
- $13.00 per hour – Fast Food $13.50
New York City (small employers with 10 or less employees)
- $12.00 per hour – Fast Food $13.50
Long Island
- $11.00 per hour – Fast Food $11.75
