Nerd Discrimination

Nerd discrimination is a common form of discrimination that does not have a law yet pertaining to regulating it. Nerd discrimination is difficult to understand and to put a stop to. The primary difficulty with regulating and prosecuting nerd discrimination Is attributed to the fact that a “nerd” is a highly subjective classification of an individual based on characteristics that are not always definable.

Nerd discrimination often comes in the form of bullying. Most often, one can observe bullying against said nerds in schools. However, an entire institute has been developed to study workplace bullying. That institute is called the Workplace Bullying and Trauma Institute. According to the institute, workplace bullying occurs three times more than any other form of discrimination. One in every 10,000 employees is a victim of some form of bullying.

While bullying is not exclusively a form of nerd discrimination, bullying is often associated with this form of discrimination. Nerd discrimination and any other form of discrimination in the workplace is strictly prohibited. One of the primary reasons that discrimination in the workplace is illegal is due to the laws enacted by the Civil Rights Act.

The Civil Rights Act states that all individuals are entitled to receive fair treatment, regardless of race, sex, age, sexual orientation or other factors. Though the Civil Rights Act does not protect individual explicitly from nerd discrimination, the Act encompasses all physical and physiological issues that any individual may be faced with.

All places of work are required to have a labor law poster that clearly outlines an employee’s labor law rights. On the poster, information regarding state and federal labor law regulations needs to be clearly visible. In the event that an employee believes that he or she is the victim of employment discrimination, the employee needs to only access the poster to find the appropriate contact information for the labor law agency governing his or her concerns.
