West Virginia (WV) Wage and Hour Laws

The purpose of West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws is to establish fairness within the labor force. These documents serve as a guide for both employers and employees.

According to West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws the minimum wage for West Virginia is $5.15 per hour. For employees 20 years of age and under that wage is $4.25 per hour for the first 90 days. In addition, those companies who have six or more employees will be required to pay their workers at least $5.85 per hour.

Workers in the State of Virginia are entitled to receive overtime at a rate of time and a half. This rate is given to employees who work over 40 hours per week within a seven day period. Certain exceptions apply, and these can be found within West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws documentation.

According to West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws employees must be paid at least once every two weeks. Some types of occupations are exempt from this pay schedule mandate. In addition, employees’ checks must be easy to cash (i.e. at a bank across the street from the job site).

West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws make a specific provision for meal breaks. These meal breaks must be given to employees who work six or more consecutive hours, and these breaks must be at least 20 minutes long.

In addition to the above, West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws also help promote equality between the two sexes. For example, both men and women who work in Virginia that perform the same tasks and possess the same level of skills and abilities shall be paid the same wages.

West Virginia (WV) wage and hour laws do not require employers to provide vacation pay, sick leave, or other benefits. These are offered to employees at each employer’s discretion.
