The Spokane City Council recently approved a new Earned Sick and Safe Leave Law that becomes effective January 1, 2017. All employers in the city of Spokane are subject to this law and must comply by providing paid Sick and Safe Leave to all workers. Employees will earn one hour of leave for every 30 hours worked. Employees may use the time as follows:
- Companies with less than 10 employees – employees may take up to 24 hours of paid Sick and Safe Leave days per calendar year.
- Companies with 10 or more employees – employees may take up to 40 hours of paid Sick and Safe Leave days per calendar year.
According to the ordinance, employers must post the legal notice within the workplace in a highly visible location where all employees have access.
