San Mateo

San Mateo City Council has approved a new minimum wage ordinance that will become effective January 1, 2017.  All employers in the city of San Mateo must comply for every employee who works more than two hours per week.  The ordinance specifies minimum wage rates for both citywide employers as well as non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations.  The minimum wage for all citywide employers will be $12.00 on January 1, 2017 and will be $10.50 for all non-profit organizations.

The San Mateo minimum wage is not offset by benefits, bonuses or any other company provided plans.  Employers who fail to comply with the requirements of the ordinance will be held in violation of the Municipal Code and may be subject to back wages, fines and penalties.

According to the ordinance, employers must provide written notice to all current employees and to all new workers at the time of hire.  In addition, employers must display the official notice in the workplace in a prominent location where all employees have access and visit on a frequent basis.  Plan ahead and get your 2017 San Mateo Minimum Wage Poster now by visiting us at the Labor Law Center In addition, we have all of the California state and federal posters available at California all-in-one labor labor poster
