Nevada Department of Labor

The Nevada Department of Labor is actually the Office of the Nevada Labor Commissioner and its sole aim is to professionally and fairly administer the labor laws of the State of Nevada. The department partners with other divisions to promote the wellness and strengthen the overall workforce of the State and to meet federal and state labor standards.

The Department of Business & Industry touches basically every business in the state. Their intention is to stimulate and promote the development and growth of legal business operation. They educate the public and businesses of their legal rights and responsibilities. The department also promotes worker safety, protection and rights by managing business and industrial enterprises.

The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation also known as DETR is made up of four divisions consisting of numerous services and bureau programs to provide citizens with the highest source of training, employment and remedial programs.

The Employment Security Division provides job training and placement services to aid businesses and job seekers. They offer recruitment assistance, training incentives and tax credits to employers and referrals, skill enhancement and guidance to job seekers. The division also handles Unemployment. The unemployment benefits section determines eligibility and processes payments to those who are out of work through no fault of their own, the Contributions section is in charge of the revenue and maintains employer records and collects taxes. The Equal Rights Commission handles discrimination complaints related to employment. If you felt you were being discriminated against because of race, creed, color, age, gender, or disability or if you filed a complaint and you felt your employer was punishing you the NERC would be the people to handle such matters. The Rehabilitation Division is there to help those with disabilities live and work independently by providing training, treatment and job placement assistance. The Information Development and Processing division processes all the data and consolidates all of DETR information so that each division gets the support and resources that it needs.
