Labor Law Poster Alert: New Law in Nebraska Prompts New Workplace Poster

November 20, 2025

With Nebraska’s Healthy Families & Workplaces Act (NHFWA) taking effect on October 1, 2025, employers in the state must begin displaying a model paid sick time poster or equivalent notice that outlines employees’ rights under the new law. The Nebraska Department of Labor has recently published the model poster, and employers are required to post it by the specified deadline.

What is Nebraska’s New Paid Sick Time Law

Nebraska’s new paid sick time law, NHFWA, stems from a voter-approved initiative back in November 2024, which mandates that many employers provide earned paid sick time to eligible employees starting October 1, 2025. To refine and clarify parts of that initiative, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed Legislative Bill 415 on June 5, 2025.

According to the Nebraska Department of Labor, employers must provide a written notice of the NHFWA to employees upon the commencement of employment and display a poster containing the required information from the notice. The notice and poster must include key details of the law, such as entitlements, accrual rates, caps, permitted uses, carryover rules, anti-retaliation protections, and contact information for the Nebraska Department of Labor. The Nebraska Department of Labor has released a “Paid Sick Time” poster that employers can use.

If an employer doesn’t have a physical workplace or if an employee works remotely, the employer must provide the notice via electronic communication or conspicuous posting on a web-based platform.

The Nebraska Paid Sick Time poster must be displayed by October 1, 2025.

Labor Law Center, an OutSolve Company, has already updated its Nebraska Labor Law Poster to satisfy the new requirement.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Posting the new “Paid Sick Time” notice ensures that employees know their rights under the new law. Failure to post by the deadline can expose employers to administrative penalties, including up to $500 for first-time violations and up to $5,000 for repeat violations.
