These updates reflect significant changes in penalty amounts for workplace safety violations and are crucial for maintaining compliance with state regulations.
Key Changes in the Maryland OSHA Posters
The revised Private Sector poster now includes the following:
- Increased penalty of up to $16,550 for each violation
- Increased penalty of up to $16,550 for each day a violation is not corrected
- Increased civil penalty for a willful violation of $16,550 for each violation
The revised Public Sector poster now includes a Proposed Penalty section, which consists of the following:
- Penalty up to $16,131 for each violation
- Penalty up to $16,131 for each day a violation is not corrected
- Penalty up to $161,323 for each willful or repeated violation
- The minimum civil penalty for a willful violation is $11,162 for each violation
These adjustments are part of an annual inflation adjustment process.
Who Must Post these Notices
All Maryland employers are required to display the “Safety and Health Protection on the Job” poster in a conspicuous location where employees can easily read it. This requirement applies to both private and public sector employers.
