Florida 2007 Minimum Wage

May 16, 2016

In Florida, it’s time for a new minimum wage posting in the state’s employment and labor posters for employers. That’s because the Florida 2007 Minimum Wage is different than last year’s minimum wage, and any time such changes occur, employers have to make sure they have the most up to date information on their walls in the lunch rooms and break rooms of the work sites.

The Florida 2007 Minimum Wage will be $6.67 per hour as of January 1, 2007. This change equals a 27 cents increase over the last minimum wage, or the current minimum wage in 2006, which is $6.40.

The new Florida 2007 Minimum Wage was voted into effect by Floridians in the November 2, 2004, elections. The Florida 2007 Minimum Wage came about actually because of a constitutional amendment. The new Florida 2007 Minimum Wage affects all employees in the state including those covered by the lower federal minimum wage.

This new Florida 2007 Minimum Wage will change in 2008, too, so be aware of that. According to the amendment to the constitution that brought about the Florida 2007 Minimum Wage, in 2008, the Agency for Workforce Innovation in the state will do an annual calculation to figure out a new minimum wage. This new wage will be affected by how much inflation goes up in the country. And then when the new wage is decided by the Agency for Workforce Innovation, that must be posted.

For instance, the Florida 2007 Minimum Wage was based on a 4.2 percent increase in the federal consumer price index for the Southeast United States, which is the index used to determine inflationary price increases in food, services, and consumer products. With the change to the Florida 2007 Minimum Wage, the state has a minimum wage that is $1.52 higher than the federal rate.
