Florida W-2 Form

May 16, 2016

By January 31st, all employers were expected to give accurate W-2 forms to each worker. That’s actually a law. There are many factors that contribute to the fact that many employees do not get their forms by the proper time. Some things are the employer’s fault, and some things may be the employee’s fault.

It could be as simple as an address change. When a person moves, it is important to let their place of employment know that they have moved, and what the new address is. Sometimes the process doesn’t start out because they fail to make the proper notification. Most companies have a change of address system in place with the human resources department.

After a business is notified that an address has changed, there may be two separate computer systems that need to be updated. Initially, your address might be changed in the personnel files but not in the payroll department. This can also be the issue with a name change.

If you are an employee in the Sunshine State, you should have received your Florida W-2 Form by now. Check with your employer to see if you address is correct in the necessary databases, and let them know that the form has not reached you yet. They will probably update the system and send you a replacement rather quickly, as most employers will.

When it comes time to do you taxes, it is in your best interest to have that form. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) now requires that W-2 forms be submitted with your tax return. If it is not present, your return could very well be delayed. A simple pay stub will no longer suffice, and if you don’t get your W-2, they will want to know why. The IRS is serious about the deadline at the end of January. Few excuses will be accepted.
