Are you still anxiously checking the mailbox every day, waiting for your 2007 Delaware W-2 Form? It’s time to stop waiting, and take action! January 31, 2007 was the legal deadline for employers to distribute accurate W-2s. If you don’t have your Delaware W-2 by now, it’s time to ask your employer for another copy.
Don’t panic if you have a feeling your Delaware W-2 form got lost. Go to your employer for a replacement. They keep these records available for reprint in case of a mishap like this one; or at least they should. Regardless of the reason why you don’t have your W-2, it is possible to get another one.
Many people believe that they can file their tax return using a check stub instead of the W-2 form, but those days are long over. The IRS is extremely strict about having the actual W-2 attached to your tax return. This will not only require additional paperwork, to explain the missing form, but it will more than likely slow down any tax refund.
Many people forget to inform employers of address changes, and this can cause your W-2 to be lost in the mail. If you have made your employer privy to the move, you should ask to make sure that you followed the right procedure in making an official change, and that you have changed it with the all important payroll/human resources department. Why don’t you have your form yet? Are you sure that the correct address was given to your employer? Have you moved in the past six months to a year?
If you work for a smaller company, sometimes they don’t have the personnel to delegate the task and must therefore handle it in addition to regular responsibilities. The larger the company, the greater the chances are that it’s already taken care of. After all, maybe it’s not your fault or theirs. Things do get lost in the mail sometimes anyway. Everything may be correctly updated in company system files and the employer might just be running late with getting all of them out. There are very few reasons for this.
