Labor Law Postings in the Workplace

March 11, 2025

Informing employees of their rights under federal and state labor laws is an essential requirement for businesses of all industries and sizes. Labor law posters are required in the workplace to ensure important employment laws are communicated to employees.

Every workplace should display at least one comprehensive labor law poster that includes all applicable posting mandates. A single poster typically suffices, but employers can choose to place additional posters throughout the workplace based on the layout and usage of their workspace. Ideally, the labor law poster should be conspicuously posted where all employees can easily view it. Displaying it in an area where employees gather or frequent, such as a break room or lobby, is recommended.

Here are some factors to consider when displaying labor law posters:

Workplace Layout: For workplaces spanning multiple floors, buildings, or locations, you may need more than one comprehensive poster. In particular, if you have two connected buildings, it’s important to ensure that all employees can easily access the poster. If some employees don’t frequently visit the main area where the poster is displayed, consider placing additional posters in locations they are more likely to be viewed.

Workforce Type:

Federal Contractors: If your company is a federal contractor, you will also need to display additional federal compliance posters specific to federal contractor regulations.

Size and Format

Labor law posters should be large enough to be visible and easily readable by employees. Though most posters come in standardized formats, it’s important to ensure the information is legible and large enough to be read at a reasonable distance.

Generally, one comprehensive federal and state labor law poster will cover most industry-required posting mandates. However, digital compliance options are highly effective for remote or dispersed teams, ensuring compliance regardless of location and minimizing the need for multiple physical posters. Best practice is to ensure up to date labor law posters are accessible to every employee.
