Oregon W-2 Form

If you’re an employee in the state of Oregon, you should have received your 2007 Oregon W-2 form by now.

Employers were required to send an Oregon W-2 Form to all employees, as the deadline has passed. Every employer is supposed to give accurate W-2 forms to all of their employees by the deadline of January 31st. It’s the law. So it’s a guarantee that everyone has his or her forms, right?

Not exactly. No matter how efficient we all as humans attempt to be, eventually something goes wrong. Many employers don’t meet this deadline, or sometimes other things happen.

Your form could be lost in the mail. Maybe it just got lost in the shuffle. Don’t get nervous, your employer should be able to provide you with a new copy. Your address might be wrong in the system. Spelling errors from sleepy workers, or your own neglect of the responsibility to let your company know you moved. Sometimes employers just don’t get around to it until the last minute, so your form could just be late.

It doesn’t matter that you know the reason you didn’t get it yet. You should find out what is going on right away. Taxes are your responsibility, and to avoid extra hassle in fulfilling your own obligations, make sure your employer is keeping up with theirs. (Well, this responsibility, since it directly affects you.) A new copy of your W-2 should be no sweat for your place of work to provide. Be understanding, though, after all, no one is perfect, right?

What if all else fails and you can’t get another W-2 form? Maybe your employer went out of business or embezzled a billion dollars and is lying low in Cancun. Don’t despair. You can still file your income taxes. You’ll simply have to include two extra forms. One explains why you don’t have a W-2 from your employer. The second is actually a request for a duplicate W-2 from the IRS records.
