Texas ( TX ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Effective July 24, 2008 the Texas minimum wage is $6.55 per hour. Workers who earn at least $4.42 per hour in tips can be paid $2.13 per hour, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. The Texas minimum wage statute does not include dollar amounts, but adopts the federal minimum wage. Overtime after 40 hours is required under federal, not state, law. Most employees qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected family leave under the federal FMLA. Under the Texas Child Labor laws, 14- and 15-year olds may work between 10 pm and 6 am on a school night, but only with parental permission.*
