Labor Law Quick Facts:

Tennessee is one of only 5 states in the country that have no state minimum wage or overtime law. Most workers in the state are covered under the federal minimum wage, which is $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008. Federal law also requires most workers to be paid overtime after 40 hours per week. Employees must receive an unpaid 30 minute meal break on any shift of 6 hours or more, without exception. Tennessee does not require work permits for minors, but restricts 14 and 15 year old workers to 3 hours per day when school is in session.*
