Effective January 1, 2013 the Washington minimum wage for both tipped
and non-tipped employees is the highest in the nation at $9.19 per hour,
a 15-cent increase over the 2012 minimum wage. A recent court case permits
Washington employers to use even flawed background checks in employment
screening, as long as no malice is intended. The Washington Domestic Leave
law requires employers to provide reasonable intermittent leave when an
employee or family member is a victim of stalking, sexual assault or domestic
violence. Leave can be used for a variety of purposes including counseling
and relocation.*
