Description According to Pennsylvania state law, smokers are no longer allowed to smoke in the workplace. As of September 11, 2008, Pennsylvania employees must leave the workplace in order to smoke, making sure that if they smoke outside of the office, they are at least 15 feet away from windows and doors. Businesses or employees that break the law may have to pay a fine of up to $250 for a first offense and up to $1,000 for a repeated offense.
Employers must post No Smoking signs in visible areas within the workplace in order to ensure that all employees are aware that they are no longer allowed to smoke in the workplace. In addition to the No Smoking posts, employers should notify their employees of the change in law so that the employees will know that they may be fined or reprimanded if they do smoke in the workplace.
