Michigan ( MI ) Labor Law Quick Facts: Effective July 1, 2008 the Michigan minimum wage is $7.40 per hour, with workers entitled to overtime after 40 hours. The state minimum wage applies to employers with 2 or more workers, including agricultural workers, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. The tipped minimum wage is $2.65 per hour for employees who report at least $4.75 per hour in tips, in writing. Workers are entitled to overtime after 40 hours. Workers 16 or 17 years old may be paid 85% of the minimum wage, or $6.29 per hour. Michigan permits private employers to offer comp time instead of paying overtime in some cases.*
