Maryland ( MD ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Effective July 24, 2008 the Maryland minimum wage is $6.55 per hour with overtime required after 40 hours, according to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. A number of businesses, including swimming pools, amusement parks, gas stations, restaurants and hotels are exempt from the state overtime laws. Part-time workers younger than 16 or older than 61 are not covered by the state minimum wage law. The Maryland Child Labor laws restrict the hours that young people between 14 and 16 may work, and require work permits for anyone less than 18 years of age.*
