Louisiana ( LA ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Louisiana is one of only 5 U.S. states with no minimum wage law. The majority of the state’s workers are entitled to $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008 and overtime after 40 hours under federal law. Under Louisiana law, a terminated employee must be paid for all accrued vacation time. Final paychecks are due on the next regular payday. The Whistle Blower’s law bans retaliation against employees who report legal violations by employers. Employers may not make payroll deductions for shortages, however, an employer may deduct the cost of damages to property from a worker’s check.*
