Georgia ( GA ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

The Georgia minimum wage is $5.85 per hour, but most employees are entitled to $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008 under the federal minimum wage law. Employees are also entitled to overtime after working 40 hours per week by federal law. Every employee under 18 must have a valid work permit, although the Georgia Child Labor laws set no restrictions on hours for those over the age of 16. Under the Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act, many employers are required to use the Employee Eligibility Verification program operated by the Department of Homeland Security when hiring workers.*
