District of Columbia ( DC ) Labor Law Quick Facts: Effective July 24, 2008 the District of Columbia minimum wage is $7.55 per hour with overtime required after 40 hours. By statute, the D.C. minimum wage must be at least $1.00 per hour more than the federal minimum wage. Employers who receive federal funding are required to pay at least $11.75 per hour under the Living Wage Act. The D.C. Office of Wage-Hour enforces the law requiring fired workers to be paid the next business day.
