This FAQ informational sheet is designed to provide employees with more information about the ADA and how it applies to employees and employers. The sheet provides answers to common questions, such as “What is a reasonable accommodation?” and “Who is protected by the ADA.”

Using this FAQ sheet, employers should be able to provide more detailed information to all employees in a manner that is easy to understand and refer back to as questions arise.

Who is Covered by the ADA

• Private sector employers with at least 15 employees
• Employment agencies
• Labor organizations
• Joint labor/management committees
• State, local, and federal government entities 

All employees and job applicants are covered if they work for, have worked for, or are applying to work for a covered employer. In order for individuals to be covered, they need to have a qualifying disability, which often includes a recognized physical disability.
