The Industrial Welfare Commission is a California State Agency whose primary purpose is to ascertain the wages paid to all employees in the state of California, to ascertain the hours and conditions of labor and employment in the various occupations, trades and industries in which employees are employed in this state, and to investigate the health, safety and welfare of those employees. The Industrial Welfare Commission has mandated that specific wage orders be posted, in the workplace, to inform employees of their wage and hour rights. These wage orders are known as IWC Postings or IWC Wage Orders. It is broken into 17 different categories. The poster is a mandatory poster that must be posted next to the State and Federal labor laws.
The IWC Wage order number 15 is for the Household Occupation. “Household Occupations” means all services related to the care of persons or maintenance of a private household or its premises by an employee of a private householder. Said occupations shall include, but not be limited to, the following: butlers, chauffeurs, companions, cooks, day workers, gardeners, graduate nurses, grooms, house cleaners, housekeepers, maids, practical nurses, tutors, valets, and other similar occupations.
Persons employed in such occupations by any employer other than the private householder are covered by some other order.
