Effective January 1, 2009 the Connecticut minimum wage increases from $7.65 to $8.00 per hour. Overtime is required after 40 hours under both federal and state law. The Connecticut Whistleblower Protection Act prohibits employers from taking negative actions against employees, including state workers, who report illegal actions or worker safety violations by employers. The Stop Work Order Law makes it a felony for an employer to misrepresent an employee as an independent contractor. CONN-OSHA oversees worker safety for state and municipal employees, while worker safety in private industry is regulated by OSHA.*
