South Carolina ( SC ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Effective July 24, 2009 the federal minimum wage increases to $7.25 per hour. This increase affects most South Carolina employers, since the state has no minimum wage. On July 1, 2009 the South Carolina Immigration Reform Act goes into effect for employers with 100 or more workers. The law requires that employers verify a new employees eligibility to work within 5 days of hiring, using a system like E-Verify. Employers with fewer than 100 employees are not covered by this law until July 1, 2010. Penalties for knowingly violating this law range from suspension of the business license for 10 days, to revocation of the business license for 5 years.*
