Description The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act ( COBRA ), contains provisions giving certain former employees, retirees, spouse's former spouses, and dependent children the right to temporary continuation of health coverage at group rates when coverage is lost due to certain specific events. Employers with 20 or more employees are usually required to offer COBRA coverage and to notify their employees of the availability of such coverage. COBRA applies to plans maintained by private-sector employers and sponsored by most state and local governments.
Properly notify your employees/qualified beneficiaries of their COBRA rights and properly document all communication with the COBRA Compliance kit. The requirement to notify varies from time of enrollment, open enrollment, and/or basically when a qualifying event occurs.
