Description Philadelphia Violence Leave Rights Poster Effective since January 5, 2009, employers are required to post the Philadelphia Violence Leave Rights Poster. This poster is designed to inform employees of their right to unpaid leave in the event that they, a family member, or a domestic member are the victims of domestic or sexual abuse. Domestic or sexual abuse may consist of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and more. Individual employers may determine their own payment policies for employees during this leave. Unpaid Leave Periods According to a new law pertaining to victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, employers must provide affected employees with up to eight weeks of unpaid leave from work during a 12-month period if they or a qualifying household member have been affected by domestic or sexual abuse. The law applies to all employees in Philadelphia, regardless of how long they have been employed with an employer. Covered Employers All employers are covered by the law; however, the amount of time that employees can take away from work varies based on the size of the employer. Employees that work for employers with 50 or more employees can take up to eight weeks off of work during a 12-month period. If an employer has fewer than 50 employees, employees may take up to four weeks off of work during a 12-month period.
