Note: The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) is now updated on the Complete Labor Law Poster and is shipping. GINA is a federal law that provides added discrimination protection for employees. Employers with 15 or more employees must comply with GINA going into effect November 21, 2009 and updating the labor law poster is mandatory.

California ( CA ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

The new E-Discover Act requires employers to furnish documents stored electronically to litigants upon request. The documents must be in the format specified by the litigant, unless that poses an undue hardship on the employer. California has 5 overlapping family leave laws and was the first state in the nation to offer paid parental leave (with benefits provided by the state, not the employer.) The California minimum wage, which applies to minors and tipped workers as well, is $8.00 per hour. The state is the only one in the nation with a separate enforcement arm, the California Department of Labor Standards Enforcement.*
