North Carolina ( NC ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Effective July 24, 2008 the North Carolina minimum wage is $6.55 per hour, according to the North Carolina Department of Labor. Employers must pay overtime after 40 hours, except seasonal and recreational amusements must pay overtime after 45 hours. Employers who provide paid vacations must have a written policy regarding how it may be used. Unless the policy specifically states otherwise, employees must be paid for any unused vacation when terminated. The Occupational Safety and Health Division of the North Carolina Department of Labor regulates worker safety throughout the state. Youth Employment Certificates are required for all workers under 18.*
