Alabama ( AL ) Labor Law Quick Facts:

Effective July 24, 2009 most Alabama employers will be affected by the federal minimum wage increase from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour. Alabama has few employment laws at the state level and relies on federal laws for minimum wage, employment discrimination, overtime and family leave. It is an “employment at will” state where any employer can fire any worker at any time, with or without notice, for any reason (except illegal discrimination) or without any reason. An Alabama employee summoned for jury duty must show the summons to the employer on his or her next shift, and must be excused for jury duty.*
