Labor Law Quick Facts:

The New York minimum wage is $7.15 per hour with overtime after 40 hours. Employees are entitled to a 30 minute unpaid meal break in most cases, with 60 minutes for factory workers. The New York state worker safety organization applies only to state and local governments; private employers are covered by OSHA. New York is one of just 5 states with a state-wide short term disability program. Employment Certificates (or “working papers”) are required for workers under 18.*
