Labor Law Quick Facts: Mississippi is one of only 5 states that have no minimum wage law. Most employees in the state are entitled to $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008 under federal law. Employers are also required to pay overtime after 40 hours under federal rather than state law. Mississippi has few state Child Labor Laws. Instead, young people under the age of 16 are restricted in the hours that they can work and their occupations by the federal laws.
