Labor Law Quick Facts:
The Maryland minimum wage is $6.15 per hour ($3.08
for tipped employees) with overtime required after 40
hours. A number of businesses, including swimming pools,
amusement parks, gas stations, restaurants and hotels
are exempt from the state overtime laws. Part-time workers
younger than 16 or older than 61 are not covered by
the state minimum wage law. The Maryland Child Labor
laws restrict the hours that young people between 14
and 16 may work, and require work permits for anyone
less than 18 years of age.*
