Labor Law Quick Facts:
Under Louisiana law, a terminated employee must be
paid for all accrued vacation time. Louisiana is one
of only 5 U.S. states with no minimum wage law. The
majority of the state’s workers are entitled to
at least $5.85 per hour and overtime after 40 hours
under federal law. State law prohibits discrimination
on the basis of pregnancy or childbirth, sickle cell
trait, handicap, and smoking. The whistle blower’s
law bans retaliation against employees who report legal
violations by employers.*
