Labor Law Quick Facts:
An Illinois ban on smoking in the workplace including
restaurants and bars was effective January 1, 2008.
The law also requires those who smoke outdoors to be
at least 15 feet away from the windows and doors of
workplaces. The state minimum wage is $7.50 per hour,
and employees are entitled to overtime after 40 hours.
Illinois law requires that any worker who is terminated
be paid for all accrued vacation time. The controversial
new state law that would make it illegal for employers
to voluntarily use the Employee Eligibility Verification
software provided by the Department of Homeland Security
has been challenged in court.*
